Varvitsiotis: GNU Pledged to Resume Negotiations with Greece to Demarcate Maritime Borders – Al Marsad

Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said that the interim Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) pledged to resume the negotiations with Greece to demarcate the maritime borders.

(LIBYA, 17 April 2021) – According to the Italian Agenzia Nova, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’s statement came after his meeting with the Italian European Affairs Minister Vincenzo Amendola at the Chigi Palace in Rome, in response to a question on Greece’s request from Tripoli to cancel the MOU between Libya and Turkey on the demarcation of maritime borders.

Varvitsiotis referred to the visit of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Tripoli on 7 April, and the visit of the head of the Presidency Council Mohamed al-Menfi, to Athens, on 15 April.

He added, “What came out of these discussions is that the Libyan authorities, the Prime Minister and the President have instructed their ministers to resume the negotiations with Greece on the demarcation of the maritime borders.”
