Mihoub: Lafi and Koni’s Meetings with Haddad as Chief of Staff Undermine Consensus – Al Marsad

The head of the Defense and National Security Committee of the Libyan Parliament, Talal al-Mihoub, denounced the meetings of the First Vice-President of the Presidential Council, Abdullah al-Lafi and the second, Musa Al-Koni, with Mohamed Al-Haddad as Chief of the General Staff. Al-Mihoub said the position that al-Haddad currently holds has not been approved by national or international agreements.

(Libya, 29 April 2021) – Talal al-Mihoub said on Wednesday that such actions, whether by members of the Presidential Council or by the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of National Unity (GNU), and whether meetings with Mohamed Al-Haddad or accompanying him the Prime Minister on foreign visits—only complicate the situation and completely undermine the need for consensus.

He also stressed that choosing a person for the position of Chief of the General Staff is one of the prerogatives of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC). Mihoub warned against such provocative and irresponsible behavior, and that the efforts of the military committee to complete its plan must be supported and not obstructed.
