Coalition of Six Libyan Parties Declare Support for Al-Mangoush’s Call for All Foreign Forces to Leave Libya – Al Marsad

In a joint statement published today, a coalition of six Libyan political parties and movements—namely, the Civil Democratic Party, the Ihya Libya Movement, Al-Wasat Youth Movement, National Movement for Libya, Center National Party, and the Youth for Change Movement— expressed their gratitude for the statement issued by the Group of Seven (G7) nations in support of the elections and the removal of all foreign and mercenary forces from Libya.

(LIBYA, 7 May 2021) – The joint statement praised the statement by the G7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and the US) “was consistent with the Libyan people’s insistence on holding direct Presidential and Parliamentary elections on 24 December 2021 without delay or procrastination.”

The joint statement by the six Libyan parties and movements stressed the following four points:

(1) Our full support for the patriotic and unequivocal position of the Libyan Foreign Minister [Najla al-Mangoush] regarding the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign troops and mercenaries from the Libyan territories without delay, in order to preserve the country’s sovereignty and its independent decision;

(2) Our condemnation of any statement calling for the continuation of external military intervention, or inciting an assault on the safety of officials because of their patriotic positions;

(3) Our demands for the Presidential Council and the interim Government of National Unity to take a unified position that preserves national sovereignty, and to assume responsibility for providing protection to members of the government, and condemn the threats emanating from certain parties;

(4) Our affirmation that the presence of all foreign forces on the Libyan lands does not have the approval of the Libyan people, and has not been endorsed by the House of Representatives, the only legitimate body; our condemnation of the calls by some parties to legitimize the presence of these foreign forces and mercenaries; and our call on the House of Representatives to take a national stance that affirms the necessity of the withdrawal of these foreign forces and mercenaries from the Libyan territories without delay.
