Coalition of Libyan Parties Welcomes Appointment of Norland as US Special Envoy to Libya – Al Marsad

A coalition of 8 Libyan parties and movements issued a joint statement today welcoming the appointment of US Ambassador Richard Norland as US Special Envoy to Libya. The joint statement praised the US government’s efforts to support the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries, the holding of elections on 24 December 2021, and ensure the High National Elections Commission remains unchanged to ensure elections are held on time. 

(LIBYA, 11 May 2021) – A coalition of 8 Libyan parties and movements comprising of the National Forces Alliance, Youth for Change Movement, Center National Party, Ihya Libya (Reviving Libya) Movement, National Movement for Libya, Civil Democratic Party, Centre Youth Movement, and the National Will Gathering, issued a joint statement supporting and welcoming the appoint of US Ambassador Richard Norland as US Special Envoy to Libya.

 

The statement said, “We, the national democratic civil movements and parties, are pleased to express to you our happiness of Your Excellency’s appointment as the US Special Envoy for Libya, in addition to your duties as the US Ambassador in the country.”

The coalition said it was grateful for Ambassador Norland’s tireless efforts towards helping Libya “getting out of the tunnel of crisis by forming a unified Executive Authority, and setting a date for holding direct Presidential and Parliamentary elections on 24 December 2021.”

Furthermore, the joint statement praised the role of the US government in “ensuring the implementation of the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, and its keenness, through the Security Council, to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya, and affirm the necessity for the withdrawal of all foreign and mercenary forces, and the completion of direct Presidential and Parliamentary elections as scheduled on 24 December 2021, and its support for the High National Elections Commission and its continuation, in order to reach stability, and embark on the aspired construction and development phase.”
