Najwa Wahiba: President Al-Menfi Did Not Attend Opening of Coastal Road at Buirat Al-Hassoun – Al Marsad

Presidential Council spokeswoman Najwa Wahiba confirmed today that the Chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, did not attend the opening of the coastal road at Buirat Al-Hassoun for the portion from Misrata to Abugrein.

(LIBYA, 20 June 2021) – The Chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, said today that the opening of the coastal road will relieve the suffering of the Libyan people.

In a tweet posted on his official Twitter account he wrote: “Our efforts, and the efforts of the loyal people of the country, have been crowned with success in opening the coastal road and lifting the suffering of our proud people, achieving one of the most important goals that we sought to achieve through a series of strenuous meetings that led to achieving one of the most important clauses of the political agreement.”

However, according to a source at the 5+5 Joint Military Commission in Sirte, al-Menfi did not attend because he knew that the opening of the section today was not the result of comprehensive agreement between the 5+5 committee, but rather the result of a financial settlement between Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dbaiba and the head of the GNA/GNU’s Sirte-Jufra Operations Room, Ibrahim Bait al-Mal.

Bait al-Mal had been demanding money for months in order to open the road, to cover payment for destroyed cars, salaries, treatment and catering contracts. Dbaiba seems to have settled the issue by allocating 7.655 million LYD to Sirte-Jufra Operations Room as a reward its members.
