LNA’s Khaled Al-Mahjoub Reveals Details of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee Meeting for the Coastal Road – Al Marsad

The Libyan National Army (LNA)’s Major General Khaled al-Mahjoub said that the deployment of security forces in the central region for the opening of the coastal road was not an easy task. He said the 5+5 Joint Military Committee was working hard to ensure all necessary conditions were fulfilled in order for the coastal road to be able to reopen.

(LIBYA, 22 June 2021) – The Libyan National Army (LNA)’s Major General Khaled al-Mahjoub said in an interview to the Emirati Al-Ittihad newspaper on Tuesday, the need for the deployment of security forces to protect the coastal road. He said the 5+5 Joint Military Committee has been working on a suitable arrangement for a long time.

In a second interview, this time to the Libya Al-Hadath channel, Major General al-Mahjoub revealed details of the 5+5 committee meeting and said: “The 5+5 Joint Military Committee concluded its meeting at its headquarters in the city of Sirte in order to complete the necessary security arrangements for a safe opening of the coastal road after the completion of necessary due diligence and field visits carried out by the committee in the presence of the United Nations mission to confirm and determine the condition of the road.”

He said the 5+5 committee decided to urgently assign a specialized company to maintain the road within a few days, and the company confirmed its readiness and an agreement was already reached. He said the committee members stood at the places that were identified as security gates and outposts, and where they allowed the entry of special equipment to prepare these sites.

Al-Mahjoub indicated that the 5+5 committee confirmed the continuation of its meetings and field work related to maintenance and security in order to open the coastal road upon completion of these works as soon as possible.
