Sameh Shoukry Says Berlin II Must Tackle Foreign Fighters, Mercenaries, and Militia Issue – Al Marsad

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed the importance of holding fair and transparent Libyan elections on 24 December.

(LIBYA, 23 June 2021) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, in a brief statement made upon his arrival at the headquarters of the Berlin II Conference, according to Al-Youm Al-Sabaa today, stressed the need to withdraw foreign fighters and mercenaries, and to deal with the militia issue.

He added that the outcomes of the talks will provide a path to a Libyan path that achieves peace.

Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Shoukry, during his participation at the conference, was to affirm Egypt’s firm position on the need to protect Libya’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

In addition Shoukry will support the aspirations of the Libyan people to build a better future, as well as support efforts aimed at moving the comprehensive political process led by the Libyans to end the conflict and achieve the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries, and the disarmament of armed groups.

He also stressed the importance of concerted efforts to hold the general elections on their scheduled date on 24 December, in a manner that achieves security and stability in all parts of Libya.
