Al-Lafi, Mishri, Swehli and Haddad Attend Anniversary of Defeat of “Coup” Attempt in Turkey – Al Marsad

The Turkish Embassy in the capital, Tripoli, commemorated on Thursday, the fifth anniversary of the attempted “coup” against the Erdogan regime on 15 July 2016. 

(LIBYA, 18 July 2021) – The event was attended by my three Libyan pro-Turkey loyalists: Vice Chairman of the Presidential Council, Abdullah al-Lafi, the Muslim Brotherhood head of the advisory High Council of State, Khaled al-Mishri, , the Libyan army Chief Mohammed Al-Haddad, and the President of the Union Party, Abdul Rahman al-Swehli.

In a speech to the audience, Turkish Ambassador Kenan Yılmaz said: “The coup attempt that the Gülenist Terrorist Group (FETÖ) attempted on 15 July 2016 was repulsed under the leadership of our president, our dear people, and our heroic security forces.”

He added: “We continue with determination, at home and abroad, our struggle against the terrorist organization that exploits our sacred values, and we continue to make this clear to the international community.”

Abdullah al-Lafi from the Presidential Council congratulated Turkey on the failure of the coup attempt, adding: “The Turkish people gave a harsh lesson to the military who tried to carry out a coup against the civil state.”

Al-Lafi praised Turkey’s support for Libya, saying: “In my name and on behalf of the Presidential Council, we thank the government and people of Turkey for all the assistance they provided to the state of Libya, whether on security, economic, political, or humanitarian levels.”

Khaled al-Mishri, in his turn, said in a statement on the sidelines of the event: “The commemoration of the anniversary every year of the thwarting of the coup attempt confirms the importance of the civil state.”

He added that the conspiracy that was hatched against Turkey itself was done by the same parties who are plotting against Libya, and the result that Turkey reached with the victory forf democracy will also reach Libya.
