Field Marshal Haftar Urges All Libyans to Register to Vote at December Elections – Al Marsad

The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, urged the Libyan public to register massively in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December.

(LIBYA, 25 July 2021) – Field Marshal Haftar said in a press statement issued on Saturday that the elections which are to be held on 24 December 2021, will represent the decision and will of the Libyan people and their right to demand change.

Haftar stressed that all security measures will be taken to ensure the success of thee electoral process. He affirmed that the army will stand “with all force against anyone who tries to prevent, suppress, terrorise, or prevent Libyans from exercising their electoral right.”

The head of the Libyan armed forces Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar has been consistent in his support for the December elections. He had recently called on the international community and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to support holding the general elections in Libya on time, and reiterated LNA’s support for holding the presidential and parliamentary elections on 24 December, as agreed by the Libyan parties at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).

In his recent meeting with the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Chancellor Aguila Saleh, the head of the LNA said: “The LNA and Libyan Parliament have the same vision in achieving national unity, preserving Libyan sovereignty, and supporting national reconciliation efforts.”

Haftar urged the strengthening of the mechanisms of consultation between the LNA and Parliament, “in order to cross to the stage of stability and face all the challenges with a unified vision, whose main goal is to protect the homeland, the safety of its citizens, and the unity of its territories.”
