Libya Political Parties Declare Support for 5+5 Committee’s Call to Freeze Foreign Military Agreements – Al Marsad

Thirteen Libyan political parties and blocs issued a joint statement today supporting the national positions agreed by the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC) which demands a pan-Libya freezing of all foreign military accords, particularly with Turkey and Russia, and the immediate withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign forces.

(LIBYA, 17 August 2021) – The 13 political parties and blocs announced in their statement their support for the decisions issued by the 5+5 Joint Military Committee at its meeting in Sirte on 14 August, which stipulates the freezing of all foreign military agreements in all parts of Libya—especially with Turkey and Russia—and their demand to take the necessary measures to complete the withdrawal of all mercenaries and all foreign military forces, the need to approve the constitutional rule, and warning them of the collapse of the ceasefire in the event elections are disrupted.

The joint statement stressed the necessity of disbanding “militias and armed formations, reconsider the subordination of battalions and military entities, stipulated by the Joint Military Commission (JMC), transfer them to the Chief of Staff under a unified military institution, and refrain from allocating an independent financial disclosure for them.”

The statement called for the exit of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya, stressing that this was a popular demand, and warned official and political stakeholders against “any attempt to circumvent or obstruct these outputs.”

The parties and blocs stressed the necessity of holding simultaneous Presidential and Parliamentary elections on their scheduled date on 24 December 2021, and called for the speedy completion of the outcomes of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee in order to meet the demand of the Libyan people and achieve national sovereignty.

Statement by Political Movements and Parties on the
5+5 Joint Military Committee Outputs

We, the political parties, movements, and organizations, signatories to this communiqué, hereby, commend the national positions of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC), and highly appreciate its role in maintaining the Ceasefire Agreement, and reopening the Coastal Road. We also affirm our support for the outcomes of the JMC meeting on Saturday 14 August in Sirte, which stipulated a pan-Libya freezing of all foreign military accords, especially the agreements concluded with the Turkish and Russian sides. We also support the request of the JMC for taking the necessary measures to complete the exit process of mercenaries and all foreign military forces, the necessity of approving the constitutional rule, and JMC warning of the collapse of the ceasefire in Libya in case the upcoming elections are disrupted.

We also stress the need to disband militias and armed formations, reconsider the subordination of battalions and military entities, stipulated by the Joint Military Commission (JMC), transfer them to the Chief of Staff under a unified military institution, and refrain from allocating an independent financial disclosure for them.

While the political parties, movements, and organizations reaffirm this popular demand, which is consistent with the UN Security Council Resolution No. (2075) and the decisions of the Berlin II Conference, and demand the need for evicting the mercenaries and foreign troops from Libya, they warn official and political stakeholders against any attempt to circumvent or obstruct these outputs.

The political parties, movements, and organizations strongly affirm the urgent necessity of holding simultaneous direct Presidential and Parliamentary elections on their scheduled date on 24 December 2021, and, hereby, demand expedient implementation of the outcomes of the JMC Sirte meeting on the ground, to meet the desire of the Libyan people, and achieve national sovereignty.

God Bless You and our Country
