Williams Tells Mangoush Everyone Must Work Towards the Success of the Electoral Process - Al Marsad

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the interim Government of National Unity (GMU), Najla Al-Mangoush, received on Monday Stephanie Williams, the new Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, and the delegation of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

According to the media office of the GNU’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Najla al-Mangoush praised Stephanie Williams’s efforts in making the political process in Libya a success. She stressed GNUS’s support for the electoral process and its success despite the difficulties.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Libyans aspire to stability and for Libya to be a sovereign state.

For her part, Stephanie Williams praised the GNU’s support for the electoral process, and emphasised the need not to be drawn into rumours that fuel public opinion on social media. She said there was need for everyone to work for the success of the electoral process.

Williams also praised the success of the Libya Stability Conference, which was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripoli on 21 October.

She stressed the importance of joint communication between UNSMIL and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to achieve the desired goals.

In UNSMIL post on the meeting on its Twitter page, it mentioned that Williams expressed its full readiness to support Libyans in their quest for unity and an end to the transitional period through the holding of free, fair and credible national elections.

Although the elections are now the most critical issue in the country, Mangoush’s post, however, on her official twitter page, omitted any reference to elections but rather on “ways to cooperate to promote peace, stability and prosperity for Libya.”
