Williams Explains Details of Her Meeting with the 5+5 Committee in Sirte - Al Marsad

The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General, Stephanie Williams, described her meeting with the 5+5 Joint Military Committee in Sirte on Thursday as “great.”

Williams, in a tweet on her official account  Twitter said: “Great meeting today with the 5+5 Joint Military Commission in Sirte, which is my first with the Commission at its HQ, the Ouagadougou Hall.”

She said she  briefed them on her mandate as Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Libya, and “listened to updates on the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement, including their recent meetings in a number of capitals to advance the implementation of the Action Plan of the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters and forces.”

Williams also said the Libya‘ns had come far since October-2020 Ceasefire Agreement, “which was not breached since; the costal road re-opened; flights have resumed, re-connecting all Libyan cities in addition to other confidence-building measures.”

“A lot of work needs to be done now to build on those achievements, most importantly, the unification of the military institution,” added Williams.
